The Professional Approach to Fly Casting Tuition
Iain Thomson
Casting and Fly Fishing Tuition
All courses begin with instruction in the basic principles of sound casting, theory and practical, followed by demonstrations of fly rod and line applicable to still and running water.
The various casts are then taught, of which the overhead and roll casts are the two principle casts. Followed by the single haul, double haul, side, backhand, spey, slack line and left hand casts.
Faults, if any, are corrected on the above and this is followed by practical illustrations of line retrieve, how to play a fish, the use of side strain, mending a line, walking up and essential knots.
Suitable tackle is provided to suit an individual's physique at no extra charge, alternatively please bring and use your own equipment.
Lessons take place at Bewl Water (Lamberhurst in Kent) and last for two hours.
As in other sports where professional coaching is sought right from the start it is equally important to adopt the same cost effective approach in Fly casting.
To try to economise by either enlisting the aid of a friend or endevouring to teach oneself is a rather shortsighted policy which is likely to prove more expensive in the long run. The former is liable to pass on a lifetime of faults - the latter is like trying to run before one has learnt to walk.
Fly Casting tuition should be looked on as a money saving investment in the future enjoyment of the sport. It does not take long to learn with properly qualified instruction.
